ManTech Junior Systems Administrator in Fort Detrick, Maryland

ManTech is seeking a Junior Administrator to support a pivotal Defense Health Agency (DHA) program within our Health Portfolio. This role serves as a senior member of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) team reporting to the overall Program Manager. The Software Quality Metrics analyst provides analysis and reporting on operational software metrics across multiple agile Release Trains.

The program is based in Fort Detrick, Maryland. This position is on-site three days per week, but expanded telework options are available for exceptional candidates on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • System Administration: Perform routine system administration tasks, including installation, configuration, and maintenance of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Microsoft Windows systems.

  • Monitoring and Maintenance: Monitor system performance, and ensure system availability and reliability. Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.

  • User Support: Provide technical support to end-users, and troubleshoot hardware and software issues related to RHEL systems.

  • Automation and Scripting: Develop and maintain scripts to automate system administration tasks. Use tools such as Bash, Python, or Ansible for task automation.

  • Patch Management: Apply patches, updates, and security fixes to ensure systems are secure and up-to-date.

  • Documentation: Maintain documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Ensure all changes are documented and comply with organizational policies.

  • Backup and Recovery: Implement and manage backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.

  • Compliance: Ensure systems comply with organizational and industry standards for security and performance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Two additional years of relevant experience can be substituted for the degree requirement.

  • Experience:

  • 1+ years of experience in system administration, specifically with RHEL and Windows.

  • Familiarity with basic networking concepts and services (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP).

  • Experience with system monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix) and security practices.

  • Proficiency in using the Linux command line and shell scripting (Bash, Python).

  • Basic knowledge of configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet).

  • Understanding of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM).

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications: Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or equivalent.

  • Advanced Skills:

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Familiarity with version control systems (Git).

  • Project Experience: Experience working in an Agile environment, participating in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.

Clearance Requirement:

  • Must be a US Citizen and eligible to obtain Public Trust Suitability. Will be subject to a Tier 3 investigation for CAC eligibility only.

Physical Requirements:

  • The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

  • The person in this position will need to be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.

The projected compensation range for this position is $73,500-$122,600. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
